Do I have to choose the retainer package that matches the number of employees that I have?
Not at all! The retainer packages just include a certain number of employees within the retainer. If you do not need a high level of support but want someone on call, then you can choose a smaller retainer. And if you have a smaller number of employees, but you want more hours per month while you are growing or building your people department, then that works too!
Why is there a per-employee cost for additional employees outside of the included amount?
The retainers are built with consideration for the amount of work that it takes to support a certain number of employees. HR workload scales with headcount. More employees mean more documentation, manager questions, compliance risks, and at times, it will make the employer liable for additional employment laws.

Do unused hours roll over?
No. Retainers reflect reserved availability and ongoing proactive support.
Is an HRIS set-up or optimization required?
Not required, but highly recommended. We are tech-forward HR consultants, and a major part of our model is helping small businesses automate their HR admin so you get more value for your budget. If your HR system isn’t optimized, we may recommend a project to clean it up so your retainer hours can be spent on people, not fixing paperwork.
Which HR systems do you use?
We are partnered with Gusto, BambooHR, and APS, and we have extensive experience with Rippling and Paycom. But we can support almost any HR system, and you do not need to switch platforms to work with us.
Do I need to sign a contract?
Yes. All retainers include a simple service agreement so we can clearly outline what’s included and reserve time for your team each month. Our standard contracts are month-to-month with a 30-day cancellation notice. We review pricing every 6 months. If you’d like to lock in your current rate, we offer a prepaid 6-month option at no additional cost. Just let us know if you prefer a lump-sum payment.
When is payment due for the monthly retainer?
Retainers are paid in advance each month. This ensures your hours are reserved and that we can prioritize your team. We offer automatic monthly payments through the client portal for your convenience.
Will you use our company email address when communicating with employees?
We use the AlexandHR email domain for all outbound communication. Your team can auto-forward HR emails from your company inbox to ours, but responses will come from our AlexandHR domain.
Do you do recruiting and staffing?
We do not. We can help you with workforce planning, job descriptions, open job ads, and onboarding your new hire, but we are not a staffing agency. If you are looking for this, we can refer you to trusted partners.
